About the performance
Apex Concerts welcomes the Leonkoro String Quartet, one of the most compelling ensembles on the international stage. Founded in Berlin in 2019, the quartet rose quickly to prominence with First Prize at the Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition, First Prize at the Concours International de Quatuor à Bordeaux, the MERITO String Quartet Award and selection for the BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists program. Their Apex program brings together three powerful works of memory, defiance and song: Beethoven’s stormy C-minor Quartet, Op. 18, No. 4; Britten’s expansive Second Quartet, written in the shadow of World War II; and Schubert’s beloved “Rosamunde” Quartet, a work of haunting lyricism and quiet emotional depth.
