University operations delayed, Mar. 4, 2024

Following an assessment of the anticipated overnight weather and road conditions around the University of Nevada, Reno campus, a decision has been made to delay the start of nonessential campus operations (campus operations refers to any work performed at the main University campus, office, property, field work or sponsored events in Reno) until 10 a.m. on Monday, March 4.

Web classes and remote operations will continue as scheduled. All in-person classes before 10 a.m. are canceled.

The Redfield campus, Building A at 18600 Wedge Pkwy., is also on a delay and will open at 10 a.m. The University of Nevada, Reno at Lake Tahoe’s Wayne L. Prim Campus has suspended in-person classes and nonessential operations.

The University will continue to monitor weather and road conditions for any changes throughout the evening.

Faculty and staff who are impacted by the weather for travel to campus should work directly with their supervisor/dean for accommodations.

Please exercise abundant caution should you travel to and across campus and allow extra travel time. Also, please be cautious of snow and ice that may be on walkways.

The University community is encouraged to check unr.edu and the University’s social media channels for important, ongoing updates or changes to University operations. Also visit weather.gov for weather watches, warnings and advisories and nvroads.com or the Nevada 511 app for highway conditions, chain controls and current operation status.

University of Nevada, Reno at Lake Tahoe operations suspended, Mar. 4

Following an assessment of the weather and road conditions around the University of Nevada, Reno at Lake Tahoe’s Wayne L. Prim Campus, non-essential University of Nevada, Reno at Lake Tahoe operations and in-person classes are suspended Monday, March 4.

Instructors may conduct classes remotely, if possible, and provide notice to students as soon as possible. Students are advised to check WebCampus for any updates from instructors, as remote instruction such as asynchronous or synchronous Zoom sessions or alternative non-in-person assignments, may be assigned.

University employees are asked to work remotely and consult with their supervisor to identify tasks that can be accomplished remotely. Tasks can be designed that don’t require an internet connection if an employee does not have internet access. If an employee does not wish to work remotely and remote work is available, they may request annual leave. On a case-by-case basis, if a manager is unable to identify remote work for a classified employee, Administrative Leave should be logged in Workday after being discussed and authorized by the appointing authority (typically a Dean or Vice President). Supervisors should understand that weather-related closures will interfere with productivity and create atypical personal obligations.

The University community is encouraged to check unr.edu and the University’s social media channels for important, ongoing updates or changes to University operations. Also visit weather.gov for weather watches, warnings and advisories and nvroads.com or the Nevada 511 app for highway conditions, chain controls and current operation status.
