Offering care, attention and support for our Iranian students, faculty and staff

Dear Wolf Pack Family,

The death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini by Iran’s “morality police” has led to mass protests throughout Iran for the past several days. Numerous protestors have either been killed or injured. Internet services have been restricted in the country by the government in an effort to silence those who are outraged by the death of an innocent young woman who was killed because of how she chose to dress. The University offers its deepest sympathies to the family of Ms. Amini.

As an institution of higher learning, it is our duty to stand with members of the Wolf Pack Family affected by this tragedy. In particular, we have a number of students, faculty and staff who are from Iran and need our solidarity and support in the wake of Ms. Amini’s death. Should anyone from our University community need help, we have a number of campus resources available. Counseling Services is available for students. The Employee Assistance Program through Human Resources provides counseling for faculty and staff.

As an institution, we must come together in offering our care, attention and support for our students, faculty and staff who are from Iran. Let us all remember that by coming together and supporting one another in the name of freedom and in the name of a young woman who has died, we are lending voice for those in Iran who otherwise might not be allowed to have their voices heard.

Remember Mahsa Amini.

Sincere regards,

Brian Sandoval
President
