The Reynolds School of Journalism’s faculty-led, student-run bilingual multimedia news outlet Noticiero Móvil will host businesswoman and philanthropist Alexis Meruelo for a reading and discussion of her debut book, “Getting You Ready for Power” on April 28 at 5 p.m. in the Wells Fargo Auditorium.

The event will include a student-moderated conversation with Meruelo about the fundamental moments that shaped her personal journey to self-empowerment to help encourage powerful exchanges and motivate change in future generations.

“I believe it is important to collaborate with Noticiero Móvil because of the message I want to share with college students, jóvenes en la comunidad and the broader Reno community: if we want to achieve something, we have to give it our full effort, regardless of success or failure, because you will always regret not trying,” said Meruelo.

In her role at the Meruelo Group, Alexis’ work focuses on creating equity for underrepresented communities across industries, including providing scholarships to students in Nevada seeking higher education. Meruelo founded the “Business of Her” conference, which has brought together hundreds of women across industries for programming focused on leadership, career growth and entrepreneurship, creating a platform that encourages connection, confidence and tangible next steps for those stepping into higher roles.

“Inviting a powerful Latina leader and influencer to Reno was important to Noticiero Móvil, especially when the discussion centers around the real-life challenges facing our community and its young people,” said Claudia Cruz, managing editor of Noticiero Móvil. “Alexis advocates for everyone and her story, advice and enthusiasm deserve to be shared.”

This event is free and open to the public. Registration and additional information can be found on the event page.

Meruelo’s book, “Getting You Ready for Power,” was released April 14 and is available for purchase at retailers nationwide or on Meruelo’s website.
