Palwick nominated for Literature Award

Susan Palwick, associate professor of English, has been nominated for a Mythopoeic Fantasy Award for Adult Literature for the novel "The Necessary Beggar," published in 2006. Award winners will be announced during Mythcon XXXVIII, August 3 through 6, in Berkeley, Calif.

The Mythopoeic Fantasy Award for Adult Literature is given to the fantasy novel, multi-volume, or single-author story collection for adults published during 2006 that best exemplifies the spirit of the Inklings. According to Publisher's Weekly, Palwick's long-awaited second novel (after 1992's Flying in Place) succeeds as a heart-wrenching romance, a sharp meditation on refugees and displaced persons and a tragicomedy of cultural differences.

A complete list of Mythopoeic Award winners is available on the Society web site. The finalists for the literature awards, text of recent acceptance speeches, and selected book reviews are also listed in this on-line section.
