Both honorees cited for ability to go "above and beyond" during their duties

Linda Gierhart, accounting assistant in Facilities Services, and David Burgarello, mail service clerk in Mail Services, have been named August's Classified Co-Employees of the Month, the Staff Employees Council announced.

Gierhart, who began working as administrative assistant in Facilities in 2005, was praised for a tireless work ethic that has seen her work "overtime and 'double time'" during a period that has seen the campus be asked to "do more with less."

"Throughout this demanding year-end period she has been calm, cool and collected and a real team player," wrote nominator Amanda Evans. "She works hard to achieve accuracy, is embracing new technologies (with standardized advanced workbooks and Pivot Tables)."

"Linda treats her co-workers with respects and always wants to be her best," Evans continued. "This past year has brought a lot of changes to the Facilities Service department including an additional $2.6 million in funds for additional projects which needed to be completed for this year end. With Linda's experience, knowledge and perseverance we have been able to quickly process the purchasing and accounting paperwork necessary to get the various projects started and the funding completed."

Burgarello, the mail service clerk for the Department of History, was praised by nominator Jennifer Baryol for his kindly demeanor and ability to go "above and beyond."

"He is always courteous, kind and conscientious," Baryol wrote. "He has gone above and beyond waiting for us at times to finish addressing something or has come back later in the day to five us international forms that our faculty have forgotten to include with their package so that our mail does not miss the deadline and gets out."

Added Baryol: "On a campus that has had furloughs and cuts continuously it seems, he has always remained cheerful and upbeat and is someone you look forward to see walk into your office."
