Welcome to the Fall 2026 Semester

Dear Wolf Pack Family,

The Hawk Fire has had far-reaching consequences throughout our community, and our hearts go out to those who have lost homes, property and possessions. Our firefighters and emergency responders have demonstrated immense courage and skill in fighting a highly volatile and dangerous blaze. It is understandable, with significant areas of northern Reno still under direct evacuation orders or preparing for evacuation, that there is a feeling of anxiety and uncertainty.

At this time, the University campus is safe and not within an evacuation or “Get Ready” (Yellow) evacuation zone. The University has established emergency response and evacuation plans should conditions change. We continue to monitor fire activity, air quality conditions and guidance from local authorities, and will provide additional updates as needed.

As we begin our fall semester today, we do so knowing full well that neighborhoods in Reno have been impacted greatly, and that some of our neighbors, friends and family have had their lives irrevocably altered. The devastation that we have seen over the past 48 hours is a reminder that there is a great deal of work that lies ahead for our entire community. Given all of this, it is incumbent that we treat each other with patience, grace and understanding, as we continue to pray for the safety of those who are in still in harm’s way. 

Let us all remember that the beginning of our fall semester provides us with an opportunity to reflect not only on what is to come, but also what has happened over the weekend. Support for the people around us is essential no matter the circumstances, and is needed even more in situations like the one facing our community right now. The Wolf Pack Family is a strong one, and let us all demonstrate the ever-present empathy, care, and help that is at the core of who we are.

As we begin instruction today, my hope is that the dreams you possess will be realized in the coming months. And that as we work together to ensure that everyone on our campus feels welcome, that there is also an abiding sense that everyone’s work on our campus truly matters – and that in this recognition of the value of the people around us, we are furthering the ideals of this great University.

I encourage you all to stay involved with the life of the Wolf Pack. Our University has more than 250 clubs and organizations that help build connection and forge community. Campus events are numerous and are held on practically a daily basis throughout the academic year. This week, Wolf Pack Athletics kicks off its fall season, with home women’s volleyball and women’s soccer matches. Wolf Pack football opens its season on September 5.

Let’s all look out for one another as we start this fall semester. Thank you for all that you do in making our University the best in the land.
