Pride Month
June 1, 2026
Dear Wolf Pack Family,
I hope you are enjoying the early weeks of summer! Throughout the month of June, we celebrate National Pride Month, a time to promote acceptance and equality for LGBTQIA2S+ individuals, and raise awareness about issues affecting this community.
Our institution-wide commitment is demonstrated through the work of the Queer and LGBT+ Advocacy Board (QLAB), comprised of our LGBTQIA2S+ and allied faculty, staff and graduate students. Through research-informed practices, QLAB supports our on-campus community by providing resources, hosting events and advocating for meaningful policy and institutional change.
As a University, we recognize that many challenges remain for members of the LGBTQIA2S+ community; however, we are encouraged that Nevada and Washoe County have established strong civil rights protections and anti-discrimination laws that help foster a more inclusive and equitable environment.
While Pride Month is celebrated nationally in June, Northern Nevada will host its annual Pride Festival in September 2026. In addition, our University holds a variety of events throughout the year to honor and celebrate our LBTQIA2S+ community.
Last month, the Orvis School of Nursing held the national LGBTQ+ Nursing Summit on the University of Nevada, Reno at Lake Tahoe campus, bringing together leaders and emerging leaders in nursing and healthcare to collaborate on actionable strategies to improve LGBTQ+ health outcomes. Participants worked to develop research priorities and identify LGBTQ+ policy changes impacting healthcare and nursing education.
On June 18, ASUN will host a “Pin Your Pride” event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the JCSU Food Court. Participants are invited to celebrate Pride Month by creating something that represents them. Those attending can choose from a variety of Pride flags, make a pronoun pin, or design a unique piece. We encourage everyone to get creative, celebrate Pride and leave with something meaningful to wear and share.
Thank you for helping foster a campus community rooted in respect, inclusion and pride for all.
Go Pack!
Sincere regards,
Brian Sandoval
President
