Veterans Day On Veterans Day, let us all remember that our campus is made better, more unified in its purpose and more aware of our mission, through the contributions of our Veteran community.
Veterans Day
November 10, 2025
Dear Wolf Pack Family,
Our community of Veterans and Military-Connected Students are an essential part of the life and the success of our University. Their example reminds us all of the value of committing to service for our nation. As we approach Veterans Day on Tuesday, Nov. 11, let us all take time to reflect on the service, sacrifice and significant contributions of our country’s Veterans and active-duty personnel.
The University is committed to our Veterans as they realize their hopes and aspirations on our campus. Our Veteran Services Department provides a wide range of academic, personal and community referral services for students who are Veterans, reservists, National Guard members and family members. The members of our Veteran Services staff work every day to develop a sense of belonging on campus for all Veterans. In addition, Wolf Pack Vets is a student-led organization within the department that strives to help its members succeed academically. Anyone with a background in military service is welcome to join.
Over the past several days, there have been a number of Veteran Week events held to celebrate the role of Veterans in our community and on our campus. There are still several events coming up:
- The City of Reno’s Veterans Day Parade, held with participation from the Nevada Veterans Alumni Chapter, will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 11. Rally begins at 9:30 a.m. in the parking lot at 76 Court Street with an 11:11 a.m. parade start time.
- Wolf Pack football hosts the “Salute to Service” game at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15, at Mackay Stadium against San Jose State. Halftime will include a Gold Star Family tribute to those Nevadans who gave the ultimate sacrifice. This impactful and meaningful ceremony will be in conjunction with Nevada ROTC, Nevada Athletics, Nevada Military Support Alliance, Nevada Department of Veteran Services, the Nevada National Guard and the Veterans Home. An accompanying Salute to Service Tailgate will be held in the topmost northwest corner tailgating parking lot starting at 10 a.m. The event marks the Nevada Veterans Alumni Chapter’s 10th anniversary.
- A Veteran Support Team Social will be held on Nov. 20, from noon to 3:30 p.m. in the Veterans and Military Center of the Pennington Student Achievement Center, Room 310. All staff and faculty who are Military-Connected including Veterans, family members and advocates are welcome for this social/BBQ.
The support of our Veteran community on campus dates back more than a century, when a federal program administered by our faculty for service members led to the graduation of more than 30 of returning veterans in the years immediately following World War I. On Veterans Day, let us all remember that our campus is made better, more unified in its purpose and more aware of our mission, through the contributions of our Veteran community. On Veterans Day and every day, we honor those who serve, with selflessness, integrity and honor.
Go Pack!
Sincere regards,
Brian Sandoval
