Dear Wolf Pack Family,

Happy fall! We have now reached the point of the semester where we all find that balance between studies and work, and also enjoying the many opportunities outside of the classroom on our campus.

This is also a time to take stock of some of the numbers and rankings that you might have seen recently in news reports or at Nevada Today, our University’s news hub.

Let me start by saying that ranking a university’s overall excellence is always something of a subjective exercise, no matter how deep the data in key areas might go. However, the best national rankings of colleges and universities often do contain mileposts of achievement that speak to the success of the student experience, the excellence of faculty and staff, and the societal and worldwide impact of an institution’s research. It is for these reasons that some of the recent national rankings, for a variety of categories, have seen our University rank among the country’s best. In fact, compared to 2024, our University continues to improve on its national ranking.

Here is a rundown of some of these rankings, and what they mean:

  • U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges: 192nd for national universities and ranking 104th among top public schools. This marks an improvement of 12 spots and nine spots, respectively, from 2024. These rankings reflect the quality of education, impact of research, social mobility and success for students that an institution offers.
  • Forbes Top Colleges: 181st among colleges and universities. These rankings list the best educational, financial, career outcomes and overall ROI for all students.
  • Wall Street Journal/College Pulse Rankings America’s Best Colleges: 165th, up 35 spots from 2024. These rankings consider how a university improves a student’s overall success, including graduation and future earnings.
  • Center for Global University Rankings: 706th and in the top 3.3% of all universities in the world: These rankings assess quality of education, alumni employment, quality of faculty and research performance.

All in all, these rankings represent the extraordinary accomplishments of our entire University. Our students, faculty, and staff are setting the standard for how the state’s flagship, leading land-grant and Carnegie R1 research institution should always be viewed. Thank you for your contributions in the achievement of these rankings and for your never-ending pursuit of excellence.

More than that, thank you for believing in our purpose and sharing it with our community, state, and world.

Go Pack!

Sincere regards,

Brian Sandoval
