April 24, 2024

Dear Wolf Pack Family,

As the end of April draws near, spring has sprung and the campus is as beautiful as it ever has been in its 150-year history! As we approach the final and busiest stretch of the semester, please remember you have an entire Wolf Pack Family cheering you on to the finish line!

Asian Pacific Islander (API) Heritage Month provides our campus community with an opportunity to promote inclusivity, to further cultural awareness and to better understand and appreciate the profound contributions the members of the Asian and Pacific Islander communities make to our University, the state of Nevada and our entire country.

Although May is designated as the official API Heritage Month in the United States, our University realizes that May is busy with final examinations and commencement ceremonies. Therefore, we begin to celebrate API Heritage Month in April so everyone can fully enjoy it.

The University’s Multicultural Center has organized several events throughout April and has ongoing Asian and Pacific Islander programs, including Asian Community Council tabling in the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center breezeway on April 25 from noon to 4 p.m.

In addition, the University in collaboration with the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Los Angeles and the Northern Nevada International Center will hold a Korean Film & Food Festival on May 2, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the JCSU Theatre. This event aims to promote Korean culture within the campus community. Through an exploration of the Korean Wave with a focus on Korean cinema, attendees will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in this cultural phenomenon and its impact.

Students can learn more about API-focused events on Pack Life. The community can learn more on the University Events Calendar.

The University is extremely proud of the API accomplishments and contributions that faculty, students and staff as well as alumni and friends make in furthering the successes of our institutional mission.

According to our Multicultural Center, there are more than 40 different cultures within the API community, and a number of these cultures are present at our University. Throughout the year, it is important that we build opportunities for everyone to learn more and to celebrate the API community’s many achievements. As an institution of higher education, we commit to ensuring that the API community’s contributions remain a lasting part of our University’s story.

Go Pack!

Sincere regards,

Brian Sandoval
