The Nevada Wolf Pack men's cross country team competed at the Bob Larsen Distance Carnival, which saw plenty of PR's across the board.
Three of the eighth Pack athletes competed first in the 5000m run. Freshman Soma Baligad finished in third place with a time of 15:06.43. This time being two minutes faster than his previous personal best, and was his first collegiate 5k. Another Pack athlete was junior Alex Mendoza, who finished in ninth place with a time of 15:15.67. This time was only three seconds from beating his personal best of 15:12.54. Lastly, junior Brian Kipchumba finished the event in 16th with a time of 15:53.09. The time also just missing his personal best.
The next event saw junior Jared Marchegger go by himself in the mile run and get a huge personal best. His time of 4:12.03 was good enough for an 18th place finish, fourth best time in his heat, and set a career best for the junior.
The last event was the 5000m run that saw the last four athletes compete. The best time was set by sophomore Daniel Sayo, who finished in third with a time of 14:25.81. A big personal best for the sophomore, who had a previous mark of 14:58.54. Behind him in fourth was junior Carson Leavitt, who ended with a time of 14:26.07. This beating his old personal best mark of 15:03.92.
Junior Adam Sjolund finished the 5k in fifth with his time of 14:26.73. This being a personal best and his first career collegiate 5k. Lastly, junior Andrew Ribeiro finished the meet in seventh with a time of 14:35.00. This beating his personal best of 15:06.78 that he set last season.
The Nevada men's cross country team will look to improve even more throughout this outdoor track season.
