Data transfer optimization software, Falcon, that was developed by Computer Science and Engineering Ph.D. student MD Arifuzzaman has been selected by the National Science Foundation (NSF) for $450,000 in funding over a three-year period.

The grant is intended to enhance the developed software with additional features and make it available for the broader science community. The software uses advanced online optimization techniques to increase the throughput of large data transfers in high-speed research networks.

Arifuzzaman's advisor, Dr. Engin Arslan, submitted a proposal to the NSF to extend Falcon’s both technical and usability capabilities, so that it can be used by domain scientists to improve their data transfer tasks. The team also included Dr. Won Yim from the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
