Clinical integration aims to improve pediatric care in northern Nevada

The School of Medicine's pediatrics office at 901 E. Second Street, Suite 200 in Reno, previously part of the school's clinical practice group, has joined the Renown Medical Group. The change was effective on Sept. 1, 2015 and follows the 2014 partnership agreement between the School of Medicine and Renown Health as the two organizations collaborate to improve the health and health care of northern Nevadans.
The clinic location and phone number (775-784-6522) will remain the same, but incoming phone calls now will be answered by Renown's call center. School of Medicine pediatricians will remain employed by the medical school. They will see patients under a professional services agreement with Renown, while Renown assumes responsibility for the administrative staff, mid-level practitioners, office space, equipment, scheduling and billing.
All current School of Medicine pediatric patients were notified of the integration plan by letter the week of August 24.
Patients with insurance outside the Renown insurance network were notified of their options for ongoing care, including the option to transfer care to the School of Medicine's Patient Centered Family Medicine Center.
"We are so pleased to add an additional pediatrics location that is staffed by University of Nevada School of Medicine pediatricians." said Larry Trilops, Renown Health senior vice president and CEO network services. "The additional scheduling and electronic medical record services available to patients will be an enhancement for them, and Renown and the University have the opportunity to integrate clinically and learn from each other's systems and processes. This is a win all around for Renown, the School of Medicine and patients."
"This partnership has the added benefit of expanding clinical education opportunities for School of Medicine students," said Melissa Piasecki, M.D., School of Medicine executive associate dean.
The School of Medicine and Renown are recruiting an individual who will fill a new joint leadership role as chair of the school's department of pediatrics and medical director of Renown Children's Hospital. An announcement is expected this fall.
