David Shintani, associate professor of biochemistry and molecular biology, received his Ph.D. from the Department of the University of Nevada, Reno since 2000.
His research focus is on plant metabolic engineering. He was recently appointed director of the combined B.S./M.S. degree program in Biotechnology.
Shintani was selected for the Outstanding Mentor Award because of his extensive and high quality undergraduate research mentorship and his ability to motivate a large number of students through research.
Nine biochemistry undergraduate researchers are working under his supervision, and he has mentored another 22 since 2000.
