Dear Wolf Pack Family,

We tend to migrate to the University of Nevada in swirls of ambition, hope and optimism. We come from different towns, cities, states and countries, with different goals and reasons why we’ve chosen to work, study and live here — drawn not only to the campus that becomes our heart’s home, but also to the city of Reno, recently named a top 10 college town.

Although many different paths lead us to this wonderful campus, a unifying thread keeps us here. This “Silver Thread” of common support for one another stokes our imaginations with what is possible. It is what ultimately makes our lives all the more meaningful and productive.

You may not know your purpose when you first set foot on our campus. But after spending time here, you will discover that you dare to make a profound and lasting difference in all aspects of your life.

This Silver Thread — rooted in authenticity, curiosity and empathy — is woven throughout this issue of Nevada Silver & Blue. You will meet students who are just embarking on their journey here, and those who are preparing for what comes next. What binds them is how they view our University and its central, catalyzing role in who they are and what they are bound to accomplish.

One example is Nick Cote, a National Merit Scholar and a member of our Class of 2029. Nick chose our University because we are a place that seems “genuinely committed to students who want to succeed.” One of the more than 1,000 students that our First-Generation Student Center serves each day, Nick cites the Center as emblematic of the campus community that makes learning here all the more meaningful.

Another example is Jasmine Harris, a graduating member of the Class of 2026, who represented Nevada in track and field while serving as president of Nevada Athletics’ Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Through competition, leadership and advocacy, Jasmine has discovered how to use her voice and platform in service to others — reflecting the growth and confidence students gain as they find their place here and begin preparing for what comes next.

Our University represents many diverse experiences and backgrounds. Yet it never fails to offer the encouragement and support that gives ambition, hope and optimism their fullest and most lasting form. That is the Silver Thread that connects us all.

Go Pack!
