English Language Learners
The University Writing Center (UWC) offers individual writing support to English Language Learners (ELL). In the academic year of 2012-2013, 1/3 of writing consultations at the UWC was provided to non-native English-speaking students.
If English is not your native language and you would like to improve your writing skills, we encourage you to work with the tutors at the UWC. Whether you need help with grammar, sentence structure, or general writing, our consultants will work with you on strengthening your writing skills. Our tutors are experienced undergraduate and graduate students who are passionate about helping other students grow as writers. When working on your next paper, we encourage you to utilize the following resources to help you in the writing process. These reference materials provide guidelines to academic writing, grammar, sentence structure, punctuation, spelling, editing strategies, citations, and plagiarism. The Writing Center collaborates with many departments on campus to contribute to the overall academic success of students. The Intensive English Language Center and Office of International Students and Scholars provide support services specific to non-native English-speaking students.
