Student Transfer Outreach Mentoring Program (STOMP)

Student Transfer Outreach Mentoring Program (STOMP) supports transfer student recruitment, helps increase transfer student attendance, maintains transfer student retention levels and connects transfer students to programs such as Nevada Bound and new student orientation. STOMP ambassadors visit different colleges and connect with students looking to transfer. They attend Transfer Admissions Program (TAP) events and assist the Transfer Admissions Coordinator to share information and encourage students to attend the University of Nevada, Reno by sharing their own personal stories.

If you are interested in becoming a member of STOMP, you must meet the following qualifications and submit a formal application.

Qualifications to become a STOMP Transfer Ambassador

  • 2.5 UNR cumulative GPA
  • Enrolled in at least 6 units
  • Transferred in from a different college/university to UNR

If you're ready to apply, fill out the Transfer Ambassador application online below or visit the Office of Prospective Students in the Fitzgerald Student Services building and request an application to the Transfer Coordinator. Applications should be submitted to the Transfer Ambassador & Director of Recruitment.

When not working with transfer students, STOMP members can choose from a wide variety of skill-enhancing responsibilities and participate in large campus events such as Nevada Bound, New Student Orientation and yield events. Examples of the work in each area include the following:

Transfer Ambassador responsibilities and training opportunities

  • Regular trainings
  • Monthly trainings
  • Leadership development
  • Student leadership retreat
  • Student leadership symposium

Transfer Ambassador outreach responsibilities

Transfer Ambassadors have an array of duties, including the following:

  • Assist with the Welcome Center
  • Help advisors with college presentations
  • Staff college information tables
  • Attend and lead portions of of New Student Orientation
  • Staff information tables during semester start-up
  • Lead campus tours

Student Life Responsibilities

Transfer Ambassadors also have duties within Student Life Services, including the following:

  • Assist with staffing the Office of Prospective Students
  • Plan and coordinate (including logistics, advertising, and staffing) programs such as blood drives, athletic events, Transfer Admissions Program events, Nevada Bound and more.

Co-Admissions Program

Transfer Ambassadors participate in the Co-Admissions program, helping with the following:

  • Assist the Transfer Admissions coordinator with students
  • Schedule appointments
  • Meet with students at TAP events
