UndocuAlly Training

The term UndocuAlly is used to identify undocumented student allies. The UNR Equal Opportunity & Title IX Office is excited to host the UndocuAlly Training program for student leaders, staff, faculty and administration. The UndocuAlly training is an opportunity for participants to learn the unique challenges that impact undocumented students in higher education and learn how to support these students. Additionally, the training and Ally symbols encourage the campus community to understand and have empathy towards immigrant students, undocumented students and students in mixed-status families.

The training will focus on the five areas listed below.

  • Laws and policies affecting undocumented students
  • Sensitive language and terminology
  • Nevada undocumented immigrant population statistics
  • The sociological and psychological concerns of undocumented students
  • Community based resources and on campus resources

The training was modeled after University of California campuses, Truckee Meadows Community College and UNLV UndocuNetwork.

How do I become an UndocuAlly?

The UndocuAlly training is offered each semester for student leaders, staff, faculty and administration of the University of Nevada, Reno. The training is 1.5 hours in length and requires at least seven (7) or more attendees not to exceed 25 people. Interested participants may register as individuals or may attend as a department/organization. Please email Jahahi Mazariego, LSW at jmazariego@unr.edu to set up a training for your department/organization.
