Scholarship Opportunities

UTC Scholarship for Native Americans

The scholarship is funded by the University Transportation Center through the University of Nevada, Reno and is aimed at providing the opportunity to achieve educational and career goals for an underrepresented population in the field of engineering. The scholarship award is $10,000-$12,000 per year depending on applicant qualifications. Student work opportunities may also be available under this scholarship. Application submissions are currently being accepted year round.

*Due to grant period limitations, this scholarship is now only available for Fall 2017 and Spring 2018*

Scholarship Requirements:

  • Applicant must be a graduating high school senior seeking a bachelor's degree in civil, electrical or computer engineering from the University of Nevada, Reno
  • Applicant must have and maintain a GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Applicant must be Native American (proof of affiliation is required)
Proving Native American Ancestry

Applicant must provide proof of Native American ancestry by obtaining and submitting a Certificate of Degree of Indian Blood, or CDIB. For assistance in obtaining a certificate, visit the Federal Bureau of Indian Affairs at

  • Official High School Transcripts - sealed
  • Proof of Native American descent
  • Essay/Letter of Interest. You may want to tell us about:
       -Your degree of commitment to pursue a college education
       -What stimulated your interest in engineering
       -What attributes you possess that would enhance your career
       -How you anticipate making a contribution to society
       -Why you deserve this award
