Digital Measures

The University of Nevada, Reno uses Activity Insight by Digital Measures to gather information relevant to research, teaching, and service activities. While faculty enter their activities for each calendar year for purposes of annual review and promotion and tenure, the Office of the Provost uses their records in turn to produce reports for academic program review and institutional assessment.

Accounts

All academic faculty members are granted an account in Digital Measures upon hire. All activities pertinent to a faculty member's role statement should be entered into this account, so that annual evaluation templates and promotion and tenure applications, both of which are generated in Digital Measures, can be populated accordingly. These accounts are maintained by the Office of the Provost for the duration of a faculty member's career at the University of Nevada, Reno, and an individual user's records can be transferred to other institutions holding a license with Digital Measures.

In some instances, administrative faculty members and postdoctoral scholars are also granted accounts upon request by the chair or director of their academic or administrative unit.

College and departmental staff may have a "data entry" and/or "reporting" account, which allows them to enter records and produce reports, respectively, for the users in their academic unit.  As with accounts for administrative faculty members and postdoctoral scholars, requests for these accounts should be sent to the individuals listed under the Questions? heading below.

Chairs, directors, associate deans, and deans are automatically granted permissions in their accounts to view the records of, and produce reports for, all users in their academic unit.

Information Stored in Digital Measures

Individual users are responsible for entering data in four general categories:

  • Faculty Information (personal and professional information)
  • Teaching (information regarding regularly scheduled classes, advising, and instruction related to outreach and engagement)
  • Research, Scholarly, Creative, and Entrepreneurial Activity (e.g., publications, grants, and presentations)
  • Service (including service activities undertaken for the university, professional responsibilities within the user's discipline, and public service related to outreach and engagement).

The Office of the Provost imports the following data into users' accounts and updates records weekly:

  • Personal and Contact Information records (name and contact details)
  • Yearly Data records (rank and academic or administrative unit)
  • Scheduled Teaching records (information for classes taught for the University and scheduled through PeopleSoft, the university's Student Information System).
