Ron Zurek was appointed Vice President and Finance in July 2004. He had previously served as Interim Vice President for Administration and Finance/Special Assistant to the President for Administration and Finance in 2002-2003. Reporting directly to the president, he oversees a wide variety of administrative and financial functions at the university, including Business and Finance, Planning/Budget and Analysis, Human Resources, Facilities Services and Police Services.

Zurek has more than 35 years of private and public sector financial and operating experience, having served as president of First Interstate Bank of Nevada and executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Security Bank of Nevada. He currently serves as a director of Sun West Capital Cooperation and Sun West Bank, and is chairman of its Northern Nevada Community Advisory Board. He is a past president of the Nevada Bankers Association, state vice president of the American Bankers Association and former executive adviser of the American Institute of Banking.

He joined the university in 1993 as the institution's director for economic development. He is trustee emeritus, past vice president for finance and a member of the executive and investment committees of the University of Nevada, Reno Foundation. Zurek has long been active in the community, serving eight years as chairman of the Reno Philharmonic Endowment Trust; founder trustee of the Community Foundation of Western Nevada; past president of the United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra; and a board member of the Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America and the YMCA.

Zurek is a 1968 graduate of California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, Calif., where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration. He earned his master's degree in Business Administration in 1974.
