"An unusually well-balanced blend. [...] definitely achieved some hard-edged traditude!" — Huffington Post
"...a creative, inspiring and delightful milestone in Francophone – and global – folk music. ...a creative fusion of tradition and innovation that honors the past while re-interpreting it for the present. If this is the future of folk, we're in good hands." — Pop Matters
"Mélisande [électrotrad] blends a deep understanding of traditional song with fascinating electronic sounds and beats and superb musicianship. Their performance was infectious, irresistible and completely won over the audience at the Canadian Folk Music Awards Gala show." — Grit Laskin, President, Canadian Folk Music Awards
"Without a doubt, Mélisande [électrotrad] stole the show at the 23rd New World Festival last fall... Finding that perfectly balanced blend of tradition Quebecois music and contemporary electronica like they do is quite an accomplishment. Mélisande's powerful voice and engaging stage presence captivated the audience and filled the dance floor. 'Please have them back!' was the refrain we heard again and again as exhausted and smiling dancers went back to their seats. — Kevin Dunwoody, Musical Director, New World Festival, VT

About Mélisande [électrotrad]

Drawing from a rich heritage of traditional francophone songs, Quebec singer Mélisande unearths rare treasures that she adapts and presents with a feminist perspective and the distinctly modern sound of the band. Mélisande [électrotrad] offers an energetic blend of traditional music, pop and electro with a mix of acoustic and electric instruments, vocal harmonies and programming. Led by Mélisande and her husband Alexandre 'Moulin' de Grosbois-Garand, the group offers a fresh artistic proposal to the folk-world-trad music scene.

Hailed by critics from home and abroad, their first album "Les Métamorphoses" has garnered several awards and is widely circulated in the network of North American Folk DJ's. The group gave more than 50 performances of the shows Les Métamorphoses and Le bal des métamorphoses (with breakdance and contemporary step-dancing) as part of showcases, festivals and presenters programming in Quebec, Canada, the United States, France and Australia.

Their new album "Les Millésimes" (Borealis Records, Feb 2017) offers a collection of traditional French-language songs carefully selected during researches in various archive centres in Quebec and the United States. Like fine wines, good songs improve with age and Mélisande [électrotrad] took great pleasure in cooking up these reinterpretations. Mélisande and her partner ‘Moulin’ gathered an amazing team of collaborators to give a new life to these immortal songs and push further the fusion of genres. The research and arrangements of “Les Millésimes” was supported by the Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec and the Library of Congress. The new festive and uplifting show (also offered with two dancers and / or a brass section) has already been presented about 50 times at major events and has charmed thousands of people in Quebec, Western Canada and Australia.
