Welcome Fulbright Scholars
Dear Fulbright Scholars,
On behalf of the Northern Nevada International Center and the Fulbright Scholarship program, we welcome our incoming Fulbright Scholars to the Fulbright Gateway Orientation, August 28- September 1, 2017, in Reno, NV. We've prepared an exciting agenda aimed to orient you with the complexities and nuances of living and studying in the United States. You'll enjoy meeting and networking with local and state community leaders. Finally, you'll also meet over 70 other incoming Fulbright students and scholars from all over the world.
Educational information will be provided throughout the orientation by representatives of the Institute of International Education, AMIDEAST, and guest speakers from the University of Nevada. Each day will feature one of the following cultural activities:
•· Traditional Basque dinner (optional but recommended)
•· Fulbright Group Dinners in the trendy Midtown district
•· Home Hospitality Dinner with Local Home Hosts
•· Sunset dinner on the shore of gorgeous Lake Tahoe
If you wish to attend the Fulbright Gateway Orientation in Reno, NV, please confirm your attendance via this note or via email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Once confirmed please also forward your electronic flight information for your arrival and departure to email@example.com. Additional information and schedule of the Reno Gateway Orientation will be emailed to confirmed participants.
Note: Confirmed attendees are expected to arrive in Reno, NV (Airport code RNO) on August 28th and depart on September 1st. Hotel stay at the Renaissance Reno, food, airport transfers, and local transportation are provided for confirmed attendees. Furthermore, an optional Basque dinner with be held at 7pm on the evening of August the 28th. Please make your flight times appropriately if you'd like to attend this dinner.

Confirmed attendees are expected to arrive in Reno, NV (Airport code RNO) on August 28th and depart on September 1st. Hotel stay at the Renaissance Reno, food, airport transfers and local transportation are provided for confirmed attendees and will be notified by the Fulbright Coordinator. Furthermore, an optional Basque dinner with be held at 6pm on the evening of August the 28th. Please make your flight times appropriately if you’d like to attend this dinner.
Once Fulbright participants receive their Fulbright Gateway Orientation confirmation via email, participants will be sent a registration link to complete.
Renaissance Reno Downtown- 1 S. Lake St, Reno NV - 775-682-3900
Confirmed Fulbright participants will be provided with free transportation to and from the Renaissance Reno Downtown Hotel and the Reno/Tahoe International Airport. NNIC staff will facilitate transportation by greeting Fulbright participants upon arrival at a Fulbright table inside the Reno/Tahoe International Airport adjacent to the Golden Skier statue near baggage claim. Please be sure to notify NNIC staff at email@example.com of any flight schedule changes.
Many US airlines have checked baggage limits of two pieces of luggage at 50 lbs.(22kg) each. Depending on flight arrangements airlines may also charge additional baggage fees with and exceeding the two bag limit. Please check your airline carrier's website for specifics before you fly!
In case of flight delays or itinerary changes, Fulbright participants may need to take a taxi from the Reno/Tahoe International Airport to the Siena Hotel. Reno has numerous taxi companies, all of which service the Reno-Tahoe International Airport. Nevada taxi fares include an initial charge of $3.30 and additional charges of $2.20 per mile. Passengers should expect about $36 fare from the airport to downtown Reno. Taxis can be found at the Reno/Tahoe International Airport Taxi stand.
Reno's Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) operates more than 30 bus routes throughout Reno and nearby Sparks via RTC RIDE. Serving more than nine million passengers each year, RTC RIDE's fleet of 75 buses, including two hybrid diesel-electric vehicles, covers an area of 58 square miles. The Route 1 line serves the Reno-Sparks Convention Center, while the Route 14a line serves the Reno-Tahoe International Airport.
RTC offers several pass options: one-way passes are $1.25 for children ages 6-18 and $2 for adults; 24-hour passes are $3 for children and $5 for adults; seven-day passes are $13 for children and $21 for adults; and 10-ride passes are $10.50 for children and $17 for adults. Passes for children under 6 are free.
The RTC also runs the Sierra Spirit circulator bus service, which operates daily every 10 minutes from 7 AM to 9 PM. The bright yellow Sierra Spirit buses circles Reno in 30 minutes, with stops at major Reno attractions, hotels and the University of Nevada. Passengers ride for free and can even enjoy free wi-fi service onboard.
