Academic World Quest
Academic WorldQuest (AWQ) was created by the World Affairs Councils of America in 2000 to foster, increase, and celebrate interest in international relations among high school students. Each April, between 40 and 60 teams across the nation face off in Washington, DC to see which team knows the most about international relations, current events, US foreign policy, and world regions. Students also visit museums in our nation's capital and meet international leaders at receptions and tours.
For the fifth year in a row, the NNIC and the University of Nevada, Reno Honors Program are sponsoring a local competition on Saturday, January 27, 2018 on the UNR campus. The winning team will represent Northern Nevada at the national contest in April 2018. The Davidson Academy, Fortuna HS (from California!), McQueen HS, Reno HS, and the Sage Ridge School have all taken part since 2013. McQueen HS won the local competition for the third time last January, and came in 10th place nationally in April. Read more about it here!
The contest is open to all Northern Nevada high schools and we invite you to participate in 2018! Contact Faculty Coordinator Dr. Daniel Villanueva at (775) 784-3414 or email@example.com, or Student Coordinator Brandon Conner at firstname.lastname@example.org to learn more.
NOTE: AWQ reps will be at the WCSD Professional Development Day on August 1, 2017 at Galena HS (3 PM breakout session). Come by to meet former contestants and competition coordinators and get materials to start a team at your school!
