Michael was born in South Lake Tahoe, CA and grew up in both Tahoe and Reno, NV where he graduated high school in 2001. In 2006, he started as an intern at the Northern Nevada International Center (NNIC) and was shortly later hired to manage international visitor exchange programs such as the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), Open World, and Community Connections programs. He completed his undergraduate degree in international affairs with a minor in economics from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2007.
Following graduation, he received the Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholarship to attend the Intensive Arabic Language Institute at the American University in Cairo, Egypt from 2008-2009. Upon completing his language studies, he moved to Washington, DC to start work as a program manager for the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) at the Institute of International Education (IIE). As assistant director of the Fulbright Global Initiatives Unit at the Council for the International Exchange of Scholars, he managed and administered Fulbright Scholar Exchange programs such as Fulbright Specialist, Fulbright International Education Administrators, Occasional Lecturer Fund, Fulbright Nexus, Fulbright Scholar in Residence, Fulbright Interfaith Exchange, and Fulbright Enrichment & Anchor Cities Conferences.
In 2011, he left CIES to work for the Global South Group as a political program manager advising the Nigerian Customs Service on corruption reform of the Zuma 2-13 project in Abuja, Nigeria. In late 2012, he returned to Reno, while attending master's classes at the University of Maryland, University College studying intelligence management. He returned to work at the NNIC managing the International Visitor Leadership Program and the annual Fulbright Gateway Orientation among many other international exchange programs. Currently, he serves as the exchange program manager at NNIC and as administrative faculty for the University of Nevada, Reno. He is once again studying for a master's degree, this time in international relations at the University of Nevada, Reno while also enjoying spending time with his lovely wife and son.
