FAQ: California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST)
1. When is the test offered?
Computer-based testing is offered year-round, Monday through Saturday (excluding some holidays) by appointment. Test appointments are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, and seating is limited. Paper-based testing is offered on specific dates on their website.
2. Is the test offered online?
The computer-based CBEST is only offered at testing centers. If you would like to take the paper-based test, there are set dates when it is offered.
3. What is the wait time for getting an appointment to take the CBEST?
Appointments are on a first-come, first-served basis. Visit the CTC/CBEST website to find when appointments are available.
4. How soon will I get the results?
Reading and math scores can be delivered right after you finish the test. The writing score can take up to two weeks after your test date.
5. How much is the CBEST?
The cost of the CBEST is $41 to register, and a $61 CBT service fee. The tests are only payable by VISA or MasterCard.
6. How soon after can you retest?
You must wait 45 days to retest if needed, including if you miss your scheduled test date. You may retake as many times as needed unless otherwise stated by program or state requirements.
7. What can I bring on the day of the test?
Do not bring anything to the testing center besides your proper identification. Pencils and scratch paper will be provided.
8. Does the CBEST score expire?
The score will expire online after 45 days, but will be available to students at any time.
