NevadaFIT 2019 week-of information
We can’t wait to meet you in just a few short weeks. We hope you are excited to get a jumpstart on college! Below, you will find information regarding your NevadaFIT schedule, move-in and check-in times, locations, parking, fees and a list of items to bring to campus.
It is important to read the following information carefully:
NevadaFIT Schedule: NevadaFIT 2019 will take place between Saturday, August 17 and Thursday, August 22, 2019.
Move-In and Kick-Off Events. Saturday, August 17.
- Dorm move-in: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Camp check-in: 3 p.m.
- Kick-off ceremony: 5 p.m. at Lawlor Events Center
- Student dinner: 6:30 p.m. at the Knowledge Center Lawn
- Parent/guardian information session: 7 p.m at Lawlor Events Center
Standard Schedule. August 18-21. NevadaFIT programs typically run from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. during full NevadaFIT days. This includes meals and study time.
Closing Day. Thursday, August 22 (half-day)

Information for students
For those living in the dorms. Dorm move-in will take place between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.. Arrive to campus at your assigned move-in time. Sign up for a move-in time through the link emailed to you upon receiving your dorm assignment from Housing. Staff in each residence hall will run you through the check-in procedure and provide advice on the best option for getting personal property into your assigned Residence Hall room. As soon as the Residence Hall check-in is complete, move your car to the West Stadium Parking Garage. When move-in ends at 3:00 p.m., move to your camp’s check-in location for your first camp meeting (see times and locations below). If you will be arriving before August 17th, you will need to arrange for your own lodging accommodations, as residence hall move-in for those who have secured on-campus housing will not occur until August 17th.

For those living off campus. Arrive to campus at your camp check-in time for your first camp meeting (see times and locations below). Important: If you are not living in the residence halls during the 2019-2020 academic year, you are responsible for arranging your own housing during NevadaFIT.
For those without a Wolf Card: Please make sure to visit the Wolf Card Office in the Joe Crowley Student Union to get your Wolf Card. The Wolf Card Office will be open from 9:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m. on the first floor of the Joe Crowley Student Union on the 17th. It is imperative you have your Wolf Card during NevadaFIT.
IT support: For email, Wi-Fi, phone, log-in ID, and computer support, please visit the 3rd floor of the Joe Crowley Student Union from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on August 17th.
Camp check-in and first camp meeting. Check-in starts promptly at 3 p.m. and locations vary by camp.
- ScienceFIT: 3:00 p.m. at the Davidson Math and Science Center
- CABNRFIT: 3:00 p.m. at the Agriculture Quad near the Fleischmann Agriculture Building
- HealthFIT: 3:00 p.m. at Lombardi Recreation Center, Room 224
- Biz-FIT: 3:00 p.m. at Lawlor Events Center
- FIT2Care: 3:00 p.m. at the William Raggio Building Lawn
- E-FIT: 3:00 p.m. at the Jot Travis Building Lawn
- LiberalArtsFIT: 3:00 p.m. at the University Arts building
- J-FIT: 3:00 p.m. at Reynolds School of Journalism (RSJ), Room 201
NevadaFIT kick-off ceremony. The kick-off ceremony will be held at 5:00 p.m. at Lawlor Events Center. You will transition with your camp from your first camp meeting to the kick-off ceremony.
Kick-off dinner. Immediately following the Kick-off ceremony, students will follow their camp to dinner, and many camps will also have a second meeting following dinner. There will be campus representatives tabling at this event.
Dorm meeting. All camps will conclude at or before 10:00 p.m., and students living in the dorms must attend a 10:00 p.m. dorm meeting.
What to bring to NevadaFIT
If you are planning to live on campus for the 2019-2020 academic year, please visit the Office of Residential Life, Housing and Food Service's guide on what to bring to campus in addition to the list below:
- Complete your first NevadaFIT assignment on WebCampus by by August 17th
- Pens and #2 pencils
- Closed-toed shoes that can get dirty to wear during labs, field trips or fitness classes
- Comfortable walking shoes
- Scientific, non-programmable calculator (for example, a TI 30 or better)
- Exercise and/or comfortable clothing
- Water bottle
- Other preferred school supplies for the start of term
- Headphones or earbuds for your laptop
- Power cord or backup battery for laptop
- Computer carrying case
- Additional preferred snacks
- Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses
- Parking permit (see parking section below)
- Biz-FIT and LiberalArtsFIT: Professional/business attire
- CABNRFIT: Signed field trip waiver for sections 1002 and 1003 if under 18 (sent via Webcampus/Canvas)
Food and dining information
NevadaFIT will provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner to all participants beginning with dinner on August 17th and ending with lunch on August 22nd. Students are encouraged to bring extra snacks for the week. There will be few opportunities to run personal errands during the program.
Parking information and permits
If you will be parking on campus for the week of NevadaFIT, you will be required to have a parking pass. If you purchased a parking pass for the Fall semester, it will be valid during NevadaFIT in the West Stadium Parking Garage (top-level only).
This garage is available from Virginia Street with a right turn immediately after passing Lawlor if you are traveling north. If you are traveling south on Virginia Street, turn left at the Fleishman Planetarium sign, pass the Parking & Transportation Services building and then drive forward into the garage.
NevadaFIT students who have not purchased a fall semester parking permit may download this free parking pass, good for parking on levels 4, 5 and 6 of the West Stadium Parking Garage between August 16-22. It is not valid at parking meters.
NevadaFIT payment information
As a NevadaFIT participant, you should be enrolled in a 109 class. If you do not see this on your schedule, please call the NevadaFIT Office. Tuition rates apply to this one-credit. You must also pay an additional course fee of $250.
If living in housing for the 2019/2020 school year, you are automatically signed up to move into your dorm room early for an additional fee of $168.75. All fees have been applied to your fall semester payment due on August 23rd, and can be paid on MyNevada. If you have been notified you are receiving fee waivers, these waivers will be automatically applied to your account.
NevadaFIT fee waivers
We want to make sure the NevadaFIT experience is affordable for all students. Financial assistance to cover the course fee and/or the early move-in housing fee may be available for students with demonstrated financial need. The NevadaFIT Office will work with the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships to identify enrolled students with the most need, and we will contact you directly if you qualify.

NevadaFIT math course
For all camps other than ScienceFIT and BizFIT, you will participate in the math course in which you have been placed for the fall semester based on your SAT, ACT or AP scores during NevadaFIT. If you would like to place into a higher math course, please take the Accuplacer test and submit the results to the University of Nevada, Reno no later than August 4, 2019.
Visit the University of Nevada, Reno Accuplacer page for more information. Math course placement in NevadaFIT will no longer be subject to change after August 4, 2019, though it is still possible to change your fall semester math placement after this date.
Late arrivals and cancellation policy
Students in a college that requires the NevadaFIT course will fail the course if they do not receive a formal exemption. Please contact the NevadaFIT Office at (775) 784-1193 to request an exemption. Exemptions are only offered in extreme circumstances.
If a student who has been accepted into a non-mandatory NevadaFIT program is no longer able to participate, the NevadaFIT Office must be notified in writing. Please email email@example.com as soon as possible so we have time to award your spot to the next person on the waitlist. If a circumstance arises that may cause you to be late arriving to NevadaFIT, please email firstname.lastname@example.org as soon as possible for approval from the appropriate camp coordinator, and to arrange accommodations for missed material. Please make every effort to arrive to NevadaFIT on time.
August 17 - August 18, 2019: "W" for withdraw assigned to course grade if attendance cancelled and fees charged.
August 19 - August 22, 2019: Failing grade assigned to course grade if attendance cancelled and fees charged.

Parents and guardian information
If your child is living in the dorm: You are welcome to assist your student as they move into their dorm room between 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Keep in mind that guests are not allowed in the dorms without the student present. Please make sure to grab all your personal belongings out of the dorm room when the student leaves to go to their first camp meeting. After dorm move-in, all early arrival policies and procedures will be in place, including our "no guests" policy. These early arrival policies are in place to enhance the safety and security of our residents and to enable them to fully take advantage of the NevadaFIT experience.
**NOTE: The "no guests" policy includes parents and other family members.
Say goodbyes before first camp meeting: Please make time to say your goodbyes before students go to their camp check-in and first camp meeting. They will be with their camp for the remainder of the evening.
NevadaFIT Kick-off Ceremony: You are invited to attend the NevadaFIT Kick-off Ceremony at 5:00 p.m. at Lawlor Events Center. Students will be seated separately from parents. Concessions will be available. Parking on August 17th for students and their families will be available in the West Stadium Parking Garage. This garage can be accessed from Virginia Street with a right turn immediately after passing Lawlor if you are traveling north. If you are traveling south on Virginia Street, turn left at the Fleishman Planetarium sign, pass the Parking & Transportation Services building, and then drive forward into the garage.
Accessible Parking is also available in the West Stadium Garage.
There is an accessible entrance from the first level of the West Stadium Parking Complex just north of Lawlor Events Center. Additionally, a public elevator is available from the ground level south side ticket entrance to the concourse level.
NevadaFIT Parent Info Session: The parent information session will start at 7:00 p.m. at Lawlor Events Center. Please remain in the arena after the Kick-off Ceremony for a presentation from Executive Vice President and Provost, Kevin Carman. Several representatives from campus departments will also be available to answer questions.
