NevadaFIT Parent Information

It is an exciting time for your child as they prepare to attend the University of Nevada, Reno. We have developed an informational series for parents and highly recommend you attend the NevadaFIT Parent Information Session and NevadaFIT Kick-off Ceremony on August 18th beginning at 6:00 PM at Lawlor Events Center. Below, you will find additional information regarding NevadaFIT, from the selection process to checking-in and cancellation policies to communicating with your child during the program.

NevadaFIT selection process. Acceptance letters for NevadaFIT will be sent on or before July 1, 2018. Students will receive an acceptance letter via email and must confirm their attendance. Students are asked to email the coordinator, Felicia DeWald, at, if they have applied and no longer wish to attend.

NevadaFIT and new student orientation. Please be aware that your student still needs to attend a New Student Orientation session, as NevadaFIT does not cover the same information provided at New Student Orientation. Orientation is intended to orient students to the University in general, as well as the overall expectations of their program and degree. Students also get their Wolf Card during orientation, which is needed when they arrive and check into NevadaFIT.

Students requiring additional accommodations. Students requiring additional accommodations for a disability must self-disclose. Please contact the Disability Resource Center at 775-784-6000 or submit a request online to arrange for services.

Check-in/move-in procedures. Students participating in NevadaFIT who have a housing contract with Residential Life to live on campus during the 2018-2019 academic year are scheduled to move in on Saturday, August 18, 2018, and will register for a check-in time with Housing. Please note that there is no on-campus housing/lodging available before August 18, 2018. If you plan on arriving before August 18, you will need to secure your own lodging.

Late Arrival to NevadaFIT. If a circumstance arises that may cause your student to be late arriving to NevadaFIT, please email as soon as possible so the appropriate program coordinator is aware of the late arrival and can arrange accommodations, if necessary.

Cancellation policy/procedures. If a student that has been accepted to participate in NevadaFIT decides not to participate, the NevadaFIT office must be notified by email of the intent to not participate. Learn more about the NevadaFIT cancellation policy.

Communicating with your student. Your student will be participating in a rigorous, intensive program during the week of NevadaFIT, aiding in the transition to the rigor and intensity students are expected to perform during their time at the University. During the week of NevadaFIT, students are scheduled for many activities during the duration of the day and may not be readily available. Although students will have breaks throughout the day, keep in mind they are participating in NevadaFIT from early in the morning until late in the evening. Saying goodbye. The Nevada FIT Check-in and Kick-Off Ceremony will be a busy time. Students will be seated with their college/program during the Kick-Off Ceremony, while families will be seated separately. Once the Kick-Off Ceremony commences, students will immediately join their program to begin NevadaFIT. We know it is important for families to have the time to say goodbye, so it is suggested that families take time before the Kick-Off Ceremony to say their goodbyes.
