There are several events on campus that will highlight the topics of diversity and inclusion and encourage dialogue regarding these important issues.
Here are some of the events that are scheduled for the coming days:
Beyond Walls and Borders: Achy Obejas in Conversation with UNR Faculty: Date/Time: Thursday, Sept. 14 at 6 p.m. Location: Wells Fargo Auditorium (Room 124) in the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center Description: Join award-winning writer Achy Obejas and University faculty for a dialogue on race, gender, sexuality, immigration, and borders in the current climate of the United States.
Disruptions in the Classroom Workshop Date/Time: Friday, Sept. 15 at 1 p.m. Location: William N. Pennington Student Achievement Center Room 113 Description: Academic faculty who teach and interact with students in the classroom, and administrative faculty who interact with students are invited to attend.
Anthropologists Talk about Race Date/Time: Monday, Sept. 18 at 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Location: Steps of the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center Description: Join the Department of Anthropology on the steps of the Knowledge Center for brief informal lectures and discussion.
Integrated Implicit Bias Search Committee Training Date/Time: Friday, Sept. 22, at 2 p.m. Location: Joe Crowley Student Union Theater Description: The integrated training reflects the efforts of the 2016-2017 Faculty Diversity Committee, a committee that was jointly convened by the Faculty Senate and the Office of the Provost and charged with establishing a faculty recruitment process that ensures both the excellence and diversity of our faculty. The integrated training also reflects the combined efforts of the Office of the President, the Chief Diversity Officer, faculty and staff members in the Medical School Office of Diversity and Inclusion, and faculty and graduate student researchers from the Department of Psychology Behavioral Analysis Program to ensure the program is evidence-based, immediately accessible and task relevant.
