Nevada Sagebrush Alumni Chapter
Bryan Allison ’17; ballison@gmail.com

The staff of The Nevada Sagebrush encountered a number of challenges when COVID-19 pandemic closures affected Nevada. Like their fellow students, staff had to quickly adjust to distance learning. Even though the traditional print version of the newspaper wouldn’t be produced, they still had a website and social media channels to update to help keep the campus informed — all from the student perspective. Funding also became an issue, due to a loss of traditional advertising revenue. The Nevada Sagebrush Alumni Chapter helped staff by making both direct personal donations and soliciting donations from others. Enough money was raised to keep the publication solvent and working through the end of the semester.
Southern California Alumni Chapter
Lauren Seymour ‘12, socalnevadaalumni@gmail.com

The Southern California Alumni Chapter hosted two virtual events over the summer for Nevada alumni and friends. On June 4, they hosted a Virtual Beer Tasting event led by homebrewer and beer judge, Josh Smith ’06. The group sampled and learned about three different styles of beer from around California. On August 15, they hosted a Virtual Wine Tasting event with the help of a panel of wine experts, including Nevada Professor Grant Cramer, Ph.D., who has taught winemaking classes and conducted research in the genomics of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, and Steve ’78 and Beckie ’76 Bamberger, who are award-winning home winemakers. Both events had a great turnout and Nevada alumni and friends from different states and countries tuned in, including folks from Nevada, California, Wyoming, South Carolina, Scotland and Costa Rica.

We are saddened by the cancellation of the Mountain West's 2020 fall football season, but we are looking forward to cheering the Pack to victory in 2021. School of Medicine Alumni Chapter
Kyle Yamamoto ’09 M.D.; kyamamoto@sierracosmeticsurgery.com
The School of Medicine Alumni Chapter has been working with the school to honor our students during COVID-19. Our newest fellow alumni were given a virtual hooding ceremony with their close friends and family. In addition, UNR Med held a virtual white coat ceremony for the incoming Class of 2024. The white coat ceremony represents a student’s transition to becoming a doctor, and is one of the most important events in a student’s career. We are proud to continue our tradition of providing all of the white coats to the Class of 2024. The School of Medicine’s video production did an amazing job with the virtual ceremonies, and you can watch both the hooding ceremony and white coat ceremony on UNR Med’s YouTube page.
The College of Business Alumni Association
Megan Lowe-Lynch ’10; mlowe@chaseinternational.com

As we are all adjusting to a new way of running our monthly meetings and events, we took some time to reflect on our last event. In February, we held our annual social, where a group of our members met at The Wal for food and libations before heading over to cheer on Nevada Men’s Basketball as they took on UNLV. It was a great turnout with many new and current members alike, and best of all, we won! Although this year’s golf tournament was unfortunately canceled, we are already hard at work planning for next year. Please join COBAA May 28, 2021 at Lakeridge Golf Course for our 30th annual golf tournament! As always, thank you to all our members for your continued support. We look forward to seeing you all again soon.
Fallon Alumni Chapter
Brenda Boone ’07 M.Ed.; boonebrenda87@gmail.com

We hosted our first Annual Golf Scramble with a silent auction and picnic lunch on June 27 at the Fallon Golf Course to raise funds for our chapter scholarship. In compliance with state health guidelines, we had 48 players come out and maintained proper distance. We were able to raise $2,900 for our chapter scholarship.
Orvis School of Nursing Alumni Association
Janice Brady ’63, ’88 MBA; lvcrsswrds@aol.com
We would like to express our gratitude to our chapter members putting themselves and their families at risk to care for victims of the coronavirus. They have been doing an amazing job comforting patients and their families, and educating others about effective prevention measures. We are so proud of all nurses, and especially Orvis School of Nursing graduates during these tough times! We look forward to when we can comfortably meet again and congratulate our members on jobs well done!
Nevada Latino Alumni Chapter
Cynthia E. Trigueros ’07, ’13 M.A.; cynthiam.esparza@gmail.com

While we had to adjust our 2020 calendar due to the pandemic, we have been actively engaging our community on social media. We launched a campaign to celebrate recent Nevada graduates and their achievements. Be sure to check out these alumni profiles on our chapter’s Facebook @NVLatinoAlumni and Instagram @NevadaLatinoAlumni. NVLAC also welcomed Juana Reynoza-Gomez ’09 M.A., Julei Saldana ’19 and Hilda V. Gallardo ’08 to our board. If you are interested in getting involved or have questions, please email nvlatinoalumni@gmail.com.
Young Alumni Chapter

The Nevada Young Alumni Chapter has postponed its annual fundraiser event, Beer Fest. The 27th annual event is expected to be held sometime in 2021 at a new venue — Greater Nevada Field. Although the event has been postponed, the chapter leaders are proud to announce they will still be awarding $15,000 in scholarships to Nevada students in 2020! Beer Fest is one of the oldest premier tasting events in Reno and features dozens of brews and spirits from local and regional breweries and distilleries, as well as live entertainment, a raffle and more. For Beer Fest information, updates and all things Nevada YAC, visit www.NevadaYAC.com or visit our Facebook and Instagram pages @nevadayoungalumni.
