Summary

Kevin Miescke, serves as an instructor of music theory at the University of Nevada, Reno Department of Music and has been a member of the faculty since 2018.

Previous to joining the faculty at the University, Miescke served as instructor of horn and music history at Eastern Illinois University, Department of Music. In addition to his collegiate teaching responsibilities, his professional focus is as an active French horn performer around the country in orchestral, solo and chamber music.

One of his main projects is as a member of the Skylark Horn Quartet. This ensemble focuses on promoting new music for the horn quartet and championing unique cross-genre collaborations with other musicians. The quartet commissioned and premiered a concerto for four horns with the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra and during the same residency premiered two new works for horns, DJ and guitar. This group has also appeared as soloists with the Columbus (Indiana) Symphony Orchestra and performed as featured artists at the Frankenwald Brass Festival in Hoff, Germany.

A local focus for Miescke is as a founding member of the Reno Modern Brass. Started in 2018, this chamber ensemble is promoting contemporary music from local and national composers, focusing on subject matter from the history and culture of Nevada.

Miescke is also an active performer with orchestras around the country. He is a regular performer with the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra and has performed with ensembles including the San Antonio Symphony, Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra, Illinois Symphony Orchestra, Peoria Symphony Orchestra, Millikin-Decatur Symphony Orchestra and held the second horn position with the Round Rock Symphony Orchestra from 2011-2012.
