Biography

Dr. Zhang's research has been mainly focused on two bacterial infectious diseases throughout different stages of his career: meningitis (at Johns Hopkins University) and diarrheal disease (at Vanderbilt University and South Dakota State University). The topics include: 1) host-pathogen interaction in bacterial penetration of the blood-brain barrier (BBB), an essential step in the development of bacterial meningitis; 2) enterotoxigenic E. coli (ETEC) vaccine development using enterotoxins toxoid fusion protein and fimbriae.
