Coronavirus FAQ for McNair Scholars
By order of the Governor of Nevada and the Nevada System of Higher Education, as of March 18, 2020, the physical campus of the University of Nevada, Reno campus is closed for at least 30 days, with all courses and other services being provided remotely. This section provides answers to questions that pertain specifically to the McNair Scholars Program.

Do I still need to complete and submit progress reports?
Yes. Please continue to approach your classes as you normally would, just virtually using online and mobile means. I know this may be difficult, but we are here for you. Even though you cannot meet with your professor/instructor face-to-face, progress reports were requested via Student Success Collaborative Campus (SSCC). Each professor received an email requesting individual progress reports. Alternatively, Scholars can complete the progress report online.
To turn in a document to McNair Staff, do I need to come to campus?
No. With campus closed at this time, the Wolf Pack community is encouraged to continue communicating by email and to send any attachments*, forms*, etc., to firstname.lastname@example.org, or to the unit-specific email as appropriate (see the contact information section below).
*Please note: we recommend against sending sensitive personally identifiable information via email. If you are unsure if you can email us a document/form, please email our staff with an overview of what your form entails and we will evaluate your request in order to protect your student data.
With campus closed, how do I meet with my faculty-research mentor?
Each McNair Scholar should communicate with their faculty-research mentor via email, phone call or video call to define the preferred mode of communication during the alternate campus operation period. Also, Scholars and their mentors should establish the frequency of their communication. It is recommended that each Scholar have at least one communication contact with their faculty-research mentor each week.
With campus closed, how will I meet with McNair Scholars Program Staff (Karla or Heather)?
McNair Scholars Program Staff are currently making the transition to online delivery of services. During alternate campus operation, Scholars can expect their individual meetings to be modified from in-person to phone call or video call. Please contact Karla Hernández or Heather Williams for specific details. (See the contact information section below.)
Do I need to come on campus to for my tutoring sessions?
No. Please do not come to campus, which is closed. McNair Staff will facilitate communication between students receiving tutoring services and tutors. During alternate campus operations, students can expect their individual tutoring sessions to be modified from in-person to video call or other remote platform.
What will happen if I cannot complete the activities I committed to on my contract?
We are entering unprecedented times and understand that you may not have the ability to complete your contract activities. We assure you that we will take this into consideration as we evaluate progress at the end of the term, and you will not be penalized for not having completed activities due to this situation. Please check the University website for upcoming webinars and virtual events you may participate in remotely.
I need to drop a class. Can I do this online in MyNEVADA?
No, please do not come to campus, which is closed. You can register online through MyNEVADA. You should have received a communication with your registration date and time inside. Once it is your turn to register, simply log in to MyNEVADA, select your classes, and finish enrolling. You can visit our MyNEVADA Enrollment Guide for step-by-step instructions. My class registration date is coming up; do I need to be on campus to register?
No. You can register online through MyNEVADA. You should have received a communication with your registration date and time inside. If I need to talk to someone, do I need to come on campus to do so
No. Please do not come to campus, which is closed. We are happy to assist you via email or telephone. Our office hours are Monday - Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. You can also continue to reach McNair Staff via email. You are able to schedule a virtual meeting with your coach by using our Calendly system.
