Classified Staff Grant

The College of Liberal Arts provides grants of up to $750 for classified staff who have been employed by the College for at least one year. These grants are to be used for professional advancement and other specialized activities relevant to job-related professional growth. Grants may fund costs related to such activities as job-relevant workshops, conferences, seminars, certificate programs, classes (at other institutions), materials (such as books and software) and coaching (such as a writing coach or a computer skills coach). These examples are not inclusive and staff members should check with Sharon Brush and/or Melissa Samon if they have questions about whether an activity would be covered by this program.

Grant applications should consist of the following:

  1. A description (maximum of one page) of the proposed activity/material and how it meets the expectations of this program.
  2. An itemized budget.
  3. A statement of endorsement from the staff member's supervisor, typically the chair of the department or director of the program for which the staff member works. If relevant, this statement should also include acknowledgment that the job-related activity for which the staff member is seeking support would be considered "university time."

Please submit applications to Sharon Brush and Melissa Samon. Applications will be reviewed by CLA staff members and the Dean. They will be approved if they meet the qualifications and until the limited funding for this program is exhausted. This program is a complement to the textbook funding program for staff members and can be used in combination with it, but the total College funds provided to an individual staff member each year cannot exceed $750.
