Applied Liberal Arts Applied Liberal Arts pairs the rigorous academic foundation of our liberal arts majors with opportunities for personal and professional growth to ensure students graduate with the knowledge, skills and experience necessary to succeed in the modern world. The Applied Liberal Arts Initiative encourages students to pursue pathways to success. Students combine their coursework with research, study abroad, internships, hands-on experience and student leadership to develop an exciting career.

Advising

The College of Liberal Arts has a strong network of dedicated academic advisors available to assist students throughout their academic career. Located in the CLA Student Center within Thompson Hall, these advisors assist our students throughout their undergraduate years; we also require all CLA majors to receive one-on-one advising for the first three semesters to ensure they are taking the right courses and receiving professional advising help that will improve their chances of success and graduating in four years or less.

Financial support

The University’s Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship Office provides financial guidance related to your student’s educational costs, student employment information, financial aid, loans, payment plans, billing and scholarships. The financial aid office also offers workshops online known as FAFSA Fridays to assist students and their families with completion of this important financial aid form. In addition, the College of Liberal Arts offers a number of scholarships to students enrolled in our programs. Make sure that your student, completes the scholarship application found in MyNevada every year to be considered for one of these competitive awards.

LiberalArtsFIT

The Nevada FIT program aids students in their transition from high school to college through an intensive college immersion experience the week before classes begin in August. Students in the LiberalArtsFIT program meet faculty and learn about the majors in the College of Liberal Arts, attend classes regarding skills development from note taking to class presentations, visit the Knowledge Center, experience what their fall math class will be like, find out about career paths for liberal arts majors and get ready for the semester to begin.

Campus resources for wellness and safety

Make sure your student takes advantage of all the health and wellness campus resources offered. If your student is sick, we have a student health center right on campus. If your student is struggling and needs counseling support, we have an on-campus counseling center. If your student is hungry - not to worry - there are lots of dining options on campus. In addition, our on-campus University Police Services are available to ensure the safety of our students. But make sure your student takes time for fun too – and encourage them to check out an athletics event.

Offers a range of tutoring services, review sessions and resources (e.g., computer lab) to help students with math.

Provides a range of tutoring services, including free one-on-one appointments, Nevada PASS sessions, walk-in labs and weekly small group sessions.

Writing and Speaking Center

Support students through every stage of writing, from development to completion, through online and in-person consultations.
