“There is a story hidden in the wordless tones of Booth’s compositions, with moments of triumph, loss, and sweet repose. Her choices are bold and innovative.” — Tim Breckon, The Examiner
2022 Festival Composer
The Reno Jazz Festival selected Annie Booth as its first Festival Composer, to help further the composition of music by women and other under-represented groups in jazz. In this role, Annie provided an original jazz piece, Sagebrush, for participating schools to have the option of performing in their video submission. Annie also hosts a workshop: “Finding and Honing Your Compositional Voice: Jazz Composition as Daily Ritual.”
Annie Booth is a versatile and award-winning jazz pianist and composer, actively writing and playing music locally and nationally. Based in Denver, Colorado, she’s the lead performer of her many projects — including the Annie Booth Trio, Sextet and Big Band — and also a busy side musician. Booth is fiercely passionate about empowering the next generation of young women to express themselves through the jazz art form.
As a composer, Annie has received national recognition with awards from Chamber Music America (2021 Performance Plus Grant), ASCAP (Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composers’ Award, Phoebe Jacobs Prize), Downbeat Magazine (2020 Outstanding Graduate Performance), and the Jazz Education Network (2020 Young Composers Showcase), among others. In her hometown of Denver, CO, she has been named one of the Ten Best Jazz Musicians by Westword Magazine.
