As a member of the University of Nevada, Reno you are entitled to discounted and free software that may otherwise cost a significant amount of money.

Adobe Reader

Adobe Reader is a free piece of software used for viewing PDFs. It can be downloaded, free of charge, from Adobe's Website.

Adobe Acrobat

The PDF creation software is available at a discount from the Nevada Wolf Shop.

Adobe Creative Cloud

A subscription for Adobe Creative Cloud is available at a discount from the Nevada Wolf Shop. The titles include:

  • Photoshop
  • Illustrator
  • InDesign
  • Premiere Pro
  • Document Cloud

Apple Operating Systems

Apple OS X is available from Apple's App Store.


EndNote is available for faculty/ staff and students, at a discount, from the Nevada Wolf Shop.


Filezilla is a free FTP (File Transfer Protocol) client used to access the filesystem of a website. It can be downloaded from the Developer's website.


Maple is math solving, plotting, and manipulation software in common usage around campus.

UNR holds a Campus Wide license that also allows installation on a faculty member's personal computer.

Students can obtain Maple at a discounted price from the Nevada Wolf Shop.

MathSoft MathCad

MathSoft MathCad is available at a discount for Faculty/ Staff and Students of the University from the Nevada Wolf Shop.

Alternatively, all members of the University can access MathCad on Remote Services.

Mathworks MATLAB

MATLAB is available at a discount for students of the University from the Nevada Wolf Shop.

Alternatively, all members of the University can access MatLab on Remote Services.


Students and faculty may rent the software for 6 or 12 months from OnTheHub.

Alternatively, all members of the University can access SPSS on Remote Services.

Microsoft Office

Please Note: Office for Home Use should not be installed on a University-owned computer.

The Microsoft Education home use program is available to all active UNR employees through the UNR Office 365 portal.

You can access this campus licensed benefit by entering your UNR email address on Microsoft’s Education site for Students and Educators, select “I’m a teacher”, you will be redirected to UNR’s Office 365 portal to sign in with your NetID (format: netid@unr.edu).

Microsoft DreamSpark

DreamSpark is offered by Microsoft to provide students with software design and development tools at no charge. The University of Nevada, Reno has affiliation with DreamSpark that allows students to easily create an account and download the software.

Microsoft operating systems (like Windows 8) are available from the Microsoft Store.

Read & Write

Read&Write is a literacy software package that integrates reading, writing, studying, and research support tools within common applications.

Read&Write can be installed on any University member's home computer by accessing the UNR downloads site. Additionally, this software title is available as a free installation on any employees office computer from the Software Catalog.

VMWare Fusion

VMWare Fusion allows a Mac user to seamlessly install a Microsoft Operating System alongside the regular Mac OS.

This software title is available  from the VMWare store.
