About Canyon Flats (first-year students have priority housing here)

Students living in Canyon Flats will have:

  • An academic and community environment that promotes student success (primarily for first-year students)
  • Programs, activities, and amenities that aid in the student experience and transition to being part of the University
  • Access to the University’s first-class dining experience
  • A security and services desk, staffed 24/7 by University employees.
  • Student staff: Live-in academic mentors offering tutoring hours and resident assistants on each floor
  • Full-time staff: Live-in, master’s-level faculty and graduate assistant resident directors 
  • Academic spaces available, in both private rooms and communal study areas

Room features and amenities

  • Most rooms are suite style. Each single occupancy room has a queen-size bed desk, and chair, and private bathroom.
  • Common living spaces come furnished and include a large-screen TV, kitchenette, and washer/dryer sets in each unit.
  • Students will be responsible for bringing their own linens.
  • Each floor is co-ed. Gender inclusive suites are also co-ed.

Academic programming

  • Academic mentors each will provide free study hours.
  • Academic mentors provide programming on syllabus and semester planning, registration prep (for the following semester), collaborate with other campus resources/departments for academic skills workshops, and will be providing programs and services specific for students enrolled in remedial math and English.
