First Year

Open to all first-year students who are either undecided about their major or are in a major not included in one of the communities above. Members of this community will take their math and English course with other residents on their floor. If undecided, students will also be required to take the Academic and Career Exploration course (ACE 100).
Goals: By the end of the academic year, students in the First-Year LLC will:
  • Explore their major of choice and confirm that it is the right one for them
  • Get involved in an organization on campus to begin building connections and develop skills important for future career choices.
  • Understand the decision making process related to choosing a major as well as other academic decisions. Events offered to students living in the LLC:
  • Minor Exploration - A representative from the advising center provided information in regarding the options for picking up a minor either as a requirement for your degree program or as an option for students who have passion areas outside of their majors.

  • Declare a major and explore upper-class options within their major of choice.
  • Get involved in an organization on campus to begin building connections and develop skills important for future career choices.
  • Understand the decision making process related to choosing a major as well as other academic decisions. Events offered to students living in the LLC:
  • It's Not Who You Can Be, It's Who You Are - A discussion with an advising representative on how to effectively pick a major based on your passions and strengths as well as an understanding of a general timeline for students who enter the university undecided on a major but with the plan to graduate in 4 years.
