Megan Arakaki

"I wished to be surrounded by other individuals who had the same drive to achieve. You need other people in your life to push you to become a better version of yourself, to challenge you and push you forward rather than staying in the same spot. The Honors Program was a way for me to challenge myself and broaden my horizons."

Megan is a pre-business sophomore. She comes from Las Vegas, NV.

Mackenzie Barrett

"I joined the Honors Program my freshman year with the goal of challenging myself. As a graduate of the International Baccalaureate Program, I was searching for something that could mirror that experience. I wanted to be able to test myself placing myself in an environment filled with students that share the same motivation and devotion to learning that I have."

Mackenzie is a junior majoring in Journalism (News emphasis) and International Affairs (Diplomacy, Law and Organization emphasis) with a minor in English (Writing). She considers both Las Vegas and Reno, NV to be her hometowns.

Kelsey Beattie

"I chose Honors not only to challenge myself in my studies, but also to surround myself with opportunity and like-minded people. The smaller class sizes, a greater access to faculty, and an unwavering support system made the choice simple. I have already learned and been exposed to so much that I cannot wait to be a part of what's to come"

Kelsey is a majoring in Neuroscience. She is from Montreal, Canada and plans to attend Medical School .

"In all honesty, I can't remember debating whether or not to join the Honors Program. It just seemed the natural step in order to keep my education top notch and my opportunities wide open. Andrew Cooper (Treasurer)

"I applied for the Honors Program because I had heard of the amazing classes that they provided, and I wanted to surround myself with kids as focused on their education as I am. The community is amazing! They are very supportive, and I've made some amazing friends. Because of the honors program, I have been in amazing classes and made some great friends."

"As an Honors Ambassador, I enjoy guiding students with the skills and assistance to be successful as an Honors student and as an involved community member. I love to also explore all that Reno's hiking trails and coffee shops have to offer and plan to attend medical school and continue research after earning my undergraduate degree."

Erin Heenan

"I originally decided to join Honors to challenge myself in college. I wanted to be in small class sizes where I was able to have better discussions and have more time with professors. I also wanted to surround myself with like minded people who were focused on academics. I gained all of this and even more! I now have a sense of community with people I have met in Honors. Some of my best friends have come from this program. I am very happy with my decision to join the honors program."

Erin is a junior majoring in Community Health Sciences and Kinesiology with a minor in Gerontology. She comes from Henderson, NV.

Cindy Heinrich

"The decision to join the UNR Honors Program was simple. It was a natural step for me to enter into a program that would both challenge and encourage me throughout my undergraduate education. In smaller classes with ambitious students I knew there would be many opportunities that would allow me to grow significantly in my studies."

Daniel Lang (Historian)

"When I sought to maximize my four years at the University, Honors became my answer. Within my second semester, I became an Honors Student Ambassador! Savoring a 'small school' taste with the state's most driven, I've conducted media research and even studied abroad through scholarships to China. Every day, I gain more than I ever hope for and enjoy knowing that the best is yet to come!"

Daniel is a junior majoring in Journalism (emphasis in Strategic Communications) with minors in Chinese Studies, English Literature, and Communication Studies. Born in Ohio, he has lived in Bedford, IN and North Las Vegas, NV before coming to Reno.

Rachel Lucas

"The Honors Program was a perfect fit for me because of the priority registration, smaller class sizes, a close network of similar-minded people, and opportunities in the University and in the community. Living in the Honors Living Learning Community and going on the Honors Retreat my first year allowed me to build the support system and connections on campus that I needed to get involved."

Rachel Wang

"I chose Honors because I wanted to challenge myself in an environment with people of similar mindsets. One of my favorite quotes is "Fairy tales are more than true: not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten" - Neil Gaiman. I chose Honors because I hoped they would inspire me to defeat the obstacles/dragons in my life and giving me the opportunity to become a better version of myself in the process."

Rachel is a senior majoring in Molecular Biology and Immunology with a minor in Psychology. She was originally born in China and came to the University from Reno, NV.
