Monika Bharti is a Ph.D. student in education with an emphasis in STEM education and literacy studies. She completed a master’s in elementary education and teaching at UNR in 2016 and a master’s in chemistry at the University of Delhi, India. She was named a 2016 Outstanding Master’s Student by UNR’s College of Education. She works as a teaching assistant in the Literacy Studies Program. Her research interests focus on science writing heuristics, identifying the academic vocabulary of high school students, and developing identity as a secondary science teacher.
She has been involved in teaching and promoting STEM within UNR’s (Child & Family Research Center and collaborated with schools like Lemelson STEM Academy, Mariposa STEM Academy, and I-School of North Lake Tahoe. She has also volunteered with Northern Nevada Girls Math and Technology Camp and Amplify Life (a camp for people with special needs).
