Jay is a master’s student in social work whose research focuses on diversity and equal access to decision making within communities. He hopes to use his work to advocate for student parents, better graduate-assistant policies, and best uses of University funds.
Jay works with several local groups. As an intern at the Reno Initiative for Shelter and Equality, he hosted fundraisers, managed cases for neighbors without homes, and supported a positive organizational culture that motivated volunteers and donors. He also founded Reno Sparks Neighborhoods to create ad hoc committees on leadership recruitment, foster-care support, and public data access. He also holds positions in Rotary and the Latino Coalition of Northern Nevada.
