Amandeep is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Physics. She is a research assistant, working with Dr. Alla Safronova in theoretical high energy-density plasma physics, as well as the lead teaching assistant for undergraduate physics laboratory courses.
Amandeep has a demonstrated passion for science and policy work. She held internships in the California governor’s constituent affairs office, working on communication between California constituents and their policy makers, and in Washington, DC, working on science communication with the American Physical Society.
While serving on the GSA Council from 2016 to 2018 as a College of Science Representative and Vice President of External Affairs, she took Unity in Diversity from a one-time occurrence to the annual event it is now, led the GSA’s charge against ending the tuition wavier tax exemption in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, and helped establish the annual Fall Graduate Poster Symposium to facilitate the sharing of graduate research. Amandeep has been involved with the National Association of Graduate-Professional Students (NAGPS) since 2017, and she currently serves as the Western Region’s Assistant Director after two terms as Regional Director of Outreach. Her interest in NAGPS stems from a desire to help various graduate student organizations in the region collaborate in legislative affairs, graduate student rights, and other matters to promote each graduate student’s voice to a national level.
