Professional Development Series

In collaboration with the Graduate Student Association, the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs, INBRE, DRI, the College of Agriculture, Biotechnology and Natural Resources, the College of Business, the College of Science, and the School of Medicine, the Graduate School is pleased to offer a series of seminars and workshops to help graduate students and postdoctoral fellows develop and enhance their professional skills to succeed in their current positions and future careers.


All of the workshops are open to any graduate student or posdoc and registration is encouraged.

January 30: Proposal Writing

  • Speakers: Dr. Ana de Bettencourt-Dias, Associate Vice President for Research
  • Description: Dr. de Bettencourt-Dias will discuss the basic principles of good grantsmanship, such as how to read a request for proposal, how to write a compelling first page, and how to set up proposals so they are easy to review. She will also discuss strategies to improve writing productivity.

  • Description: Professor Adam Kirn is UNR's very own nationally and locally recognized expert on diversity and graduate education. In this interactive workshop you will learn how to 1) Recognize the need for creating diverse and inclusive environments in graduate education, 2) Utilize best practices for discussing diversity, 3) Create practices to foster inclusion in your research group
