Unity in Diversity Conference
The Graduate Student Association at the University of Nevada, Reno is proud to present the 3rd annual Unity in Diversity (UID) on Wednesday, April 11, 2018.
UID operates in the interest of promoting unity through the understanding and appreciation of differences. UID 2018 will have sampling of food from around the world, talks from selected speakers on their diversity experiences, and a panel dialogue with these selected speakers and the audience.
This is an initial call for speakers, please submit an online application by 5pm on February 16, 2018 to be considered. The selected speakers will be awarded cash prizes.
Speakers can communicate their experiences in a variety of methods: a talk, musical performance, poetry reading, etc. Applicants can expect to hear back by Friday, March 2, 2018.
Speaker interviews will be conducted in late February/early March by a panel of University faculty and graduate students.
UID operates in the interest of promoting unity through the understanding and appreciation of differences. The student population at the University is vast and varied, making diversity one of our greatest assets. UID asserts fundamentally that assimilation is not unity. Unity is instead the critical and conscious move of individuals and communities toward mindfulness, understanding and compassion. We find that thinking critically of differences enhances the lives of individuals and communities and drives us to new ideas, technologies, and widened perspectives. We set the stage for speakers to communicate their own diversity experiences; we promote the experiencing of a diverse array of cuisines; we promote education in traditional cultural attires and practices; and finally we provide a space to meet new friends and colleagues.
Welcome to the Unity in Diversity Conference!
