Graduate faculty

Graduate faculty are a specific subset of all University faculty. The graduate faculty consists of those members of the faculty or adjunct faculty (as defined in Section 2.3.5 of the University bylaws) and clinical faculty (as defined in Section 2.3.6 of the University bylaws) appointed to it by an instructional department or program.

Appointment of faculty

The University Bylaws establish that the Graduate Council will oversee the composition of the graduate faculty.

Each instructional department or program develops criteria for appointment to the graduate faculty and places the criteria on file with the program and with the Graduate School. Appointments to the graduate faculty are based on a capability to contribute to graduate education demonstrated through:

• Receipt of a terminal degree considered appropriate by the department or program
• Research competence
• Ability to teach graduate students.
