Summary
Jason has a joint appointment between the department of English and the Honors College, where he is the director of the Office of Undergraduate Fellowships and Scholarships. In addition to teaching and advising students on their academic and career plans, he helps students apply for Fulbright, Rhodes, Udall, Boren, Truman, and other nationally competitive awards and fellowships.
After receiving his undergraduate degree in English and forestry, Jason joined the Peace Corps where he was an agro-forestry volunteer in Guinea, West Africa. Upon returning to the United States, he went back to school and earned his MFA in creative writing with a focus on fiction.
Since receiving his MFA, Jason has been teaching at the University of Nevada, Reno, in the English Department. While primarily teaching within the Core Writing program, he has also taught upper division literature, linguistics and creative writing courses. Jason enjoys talking with students about their writing and makes a point to conference with students in order to enable them to become better writers. In addition to creative writing and the teaching of composition, Jason's research interests focus on the role of experts in public policy discourse. His work has examined how forest management discourse shapes public perception of environmental issues.
