The University of Nevada, Reno, a remarkable Carnegie Research 1 university, is seeking an Executive Director, Marketing and Communications who will be charged with capturing the dynamism and momentum of the statewide institution and raising its national profile. The Executive Director will help strategize and amplify the institution’s reputation for embracing a culture of student success, nurturing faculty-led discovery through world-improving research and creativity, and engaging its community and its state through entrepreneurialism, workforce and career enhancement and cultural and creative offerings that enhance the region’s quality of life.

About the position

As the chief marketing and communications strategist for the University of Nevada, Reno, the Executive Director, Marketing and Communications leads the development and implementation of the University’s integrated marketing and communications program to achieve strategic objectives and identified results. Establishing and maintaining an effective and audience-focused communication infrastructure and a consistent visual identity, organizational voice and institutional messaging are priorities. The Executive Director provides leadership-level counsel to the President, Provost, deans, vice presidents, faculty and directors in the Office of Marketing and Communications as well as marketing and communications directors across University divisions, including Intercollegiate Athletics and the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine. The Executive Director works in a fast-paced environment and oversees a results-oriented team of communications, digital/web, creative services and graphic arts professionals. The position serves as the primary representative of the marketing and communications function on and off campus and as a public spokesperson for the University as appropriate. The position reports to the President of the University and is a member of the President's Council.

Required qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with emphasis in business, marketing, journalism, communications, advertising, or related and seven (7) years of related experience OR

Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with emphasis in business, marketing, journalism, communications, advertising, or related and five (5) years of related experience.

Related experience

Marketing, public or media relations or integrated marketing communications and experience in leading successful, strategic marketing communication campaigns in academic, corporate, or non-profit settings

The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in leading successful, strategic marketing communication campaigns in academic, corporate or non-profit settings.

Preferred qualifications

Bachelor’s degree as noted above plus ten years of applicable experience, or a master’s degree as noted above and seven years of applicable experience.
