Minor in English
Supercharge your skills with an English minor from the University of Nevada, Reno.
An English minor can help you stand out in today's competitive job market. Gain the skills employers need in critical reading, research, editing, oral presentation, writing, and language use.
Why is English a Valuable Minor
When you choose one of the five 18-credit English minor programs -- literature, writing, cinema and media studies, language and linguistics, and teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL) -- you show employers that you have the analytic, communication, presentation, and writing skills they're looking for.
What Majors Pair Well with English
A minor works well with any major and is especially easy to combine with another liberal arts major. It can be especially useful for those majoring in the following humanities and social science majors:
- Political Science
- Criminal Justice
You might not have considered how useful an English minor can be in making you stand out from the crowd, especially if you major in:
- Biology (especially for premeds)
Although English majors are discouraged from also minoring in English, students majoring in literature or writing may minor in linguistics or TESOL. Students majoring in linguistics may minor in literature or writing. No course may simultaneously fulfill requirements in major and minor.
If you are ready to declare English as your minor, or just have questions, make an appointment to talk with one of the department's academic advisors. You can view a student worksheet beforehand. Then, schedule your appointment by calling (775) 784-6689 or emailing email@example.com.
